Flora Croatica Database (FCD 1.2 and later on versions) has been realised in the frame of project "Biological database and GIS II" under the supervision of dr. Toni Nikolić. The database was upgraded in several occasions, in the frame of different projects and initiatives, up to current 2.6.3 version (June 2005).

Database was developed in collaboration with Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. Accessibility for public was enabled through WWW interface in a co-operation with CARNet, a Croatian Academic and Research Net.

The purpose

The main purpose of Flora Croatica database is:

1. storage
2. updating
3. informing and
4. data analysing of

Croatian vascular flora. It is deriving from systematics (nomenclature, synonyms, authorisation), horology (distribution on the basis of literature data, herbaria collections, field investigations, oral reports), bibliography, etymology, ecology (ecological index) etc. Database enables the processing of numerical, text, audio and video documents and it is connected with GIS applications (Arc Info, Arc View, Map Info). For detailes about data sources please see pages about flora and bibliography. During 2004. the modules for managing flora and related data for the activities of Botanical Garden of Department of Botany, Faculty of Science in Zagrebu are developed, available only from the LAN.

Taxonomic scope

The purpose of database is analysis of vascular flora of Republic of Croatia (Pteridophyta, Spermatophyta).

Geographical scope

Data from Flora Croatica database are exclusively connected with geographical scope of Croatia borders (see geographical demarcation in GISBio Lab).
